4 Marketing/Social Media Podcasts Every Marketer Should Check Out

Here's four podcasts (video and audio) that I try to listen to each week through iTunes to keep up with everything going on with online marketing and the evolving digital landscape. Each one tends to stay with the formula of interviewing other marketers or experts in the marketing industry as well as discussing trends and case studies. If you have any other favorite podcasts please share and leave a comment below.

1. HubSpot TV - Inbound Marketing
Hosted by Karen Rubin & Mike Volpe.

The show is hosted by Karen Rubin & Mike Volpe and many times involves a guest of the week (someone in the industry doing it right in terms of inbound marketing practices ). It's a live show and you can tweet in questions/comments during the show at #HubSpotTV . They also have all of the shows archived on the site.

Digital Barcode Readers Helping Offline Connect to Online Marketing

Stream Creative Facebook Page QR Code

In the past year, I've been reading more and more about how companies are testing and using barcodes in offline marketing campaigns.  You can add these QR codes or barcodes to anything where you can place an image, so you have an endless amount of ways to add them to your marketing material. I created this image to the right by using qrstuff.com. After scanning, it will take you directly to our Facebook page (give it a try!).  This last week I've noticed mentions in two local publications that allow the reader to scan a barcode, or QR code, with their smartphone to receive some "bonus" information.

How To: Add LinkedIn App to Find New Twitter Business Accounts

My daily fix of inbound marketing and social media usually starts with the Hubspot blog. Hubspot's latest blogpost about LinkedIn explains how they have a new Twitter app that you can add to your profile which gives a lot more integration with Twitter allowing you to respond to tweets as well as follow people within LinkedIn. The nice thing about this app is that you can now easily see which of your LinkedIn connections also have Twitter accounts. The new app also provides a link to create a complete private Twitter list of these connections.

Social Media Tip: Use Push Notifications for Twitter Mentions

As we've been using Twitter more and more to communicate with clients and friends, most of the time I find myself doing this on my iPhone. The problem I've been running into is that the twitter apps like hootsuite and tweetdeck don't alert me if I'm not using my phone when someone has replied to my latest tweet like a traditional SMS text message would. This can be difficult to try and carry on a quick conversation when my iphone goes to sleep and then I need to turn it back on to see if someone has responded.

UnGeeked: A Milwaukee Social Media and Inbound Marketing Event

UnGeeked Elite: A Social Media and Marketing Forum kicks off in Milwaukee on Thursday, May 13 and runs through Saturday, May 15 at the University Club. The Keynote speakers are nationally and internationally known for social media, marketing and branding. The great thing about this event will be the fact that the presenters will have limited slide presentations and are expected to encourage the audience to ask questions and engage with the speakers. This won't be your typical conference and from everything we have read about the event will hopefully be something that will happen for years to come.

At Stream Creative we are very excited to attend the event with such a great lineup and especially to hear Hubspot talk about inbound marketing.

For more unGeeked event information and registration check out Sohobiztube.com:

Keynote Speakers:
  • Olivier Blanchard - The Brand Builder and Red Chair Group
  • Jason Falls - Social Media Explorer - Marketing and PR

Milwaukee Gallery Night Goes Social On Foursquare Day

This past weekend Milwaukee hosted the quarterly event Gallery Night and Day which featured 66 venues throughout the downtown Milwaukee area. It always draws a great crowd and this year Journal Sentinel asked people to help "check in" to art galleries on Foursquare to help draw attention to the local art scene in Milwaukee. What a great way to promote the event, galleries and artists as well as celebrate the first Foursquare Day. By checking in to 10 different galleries a person could also unlock the Warhol badge. People also used the hashtag #galnite on twitter to promote the event in the days before the weekend as well as for touching base with other people during the event. For more information on what you missed this past weekend check out the Art City blog.
