It’s September 1st – which means the entire month of August passed us by without one single blog entry! But I have an excuse…I’m just too busy to blog! I’m the father of 3 children under the age of 5, I run a graphic design and marketing business, I have a 2 hour commute (round trip) and I’m involved in activities outside of work – so it’s OK, right?
WRONG!
There is absolutely no excuse for not writing a blog entry at least twice a week. As a business that whole-heartedly believes in the power of social media and encourages our clients to be active bloggers, it is unacceptable that we don’t practice what we preach!
Blogging is a great way to:
So, why don’t more companies do it? The simple answer is that they don’t make time to do it. There is the misconception that blogging, and getting involved in social media, requires too much of a time commitment. We certainly understand that people are busy and that the thought of adding another daily task is daunting!
But everyday we make time to respond to email and return phone calls – activities we would argue are absolutely vital in keeping your lights on. It should be no different with blogging. In most cases, an email or phone call reaches only one person – at times a small group of people. Blogging gives you the opportunity to reach thousands of people in nearly the same time it took to write a well-crafted email or to jump on a conference call. And with the inherent benefits mentioned above, it seems foolish not to make blogging a priority (and I’m speaking to myself on this point).
That said, I am issuing a challenge to myself. I will write one blog entry a day for the next 14 days and prove that no matter how busy we get, it is in fact possible to make time for blogging. And just like we encourage our clients to set up realistic rules of engagement, I will limit myself to 30-45 minutes per day to write.
So, let the challenge begin! I’ll see you tomorrow.
